Mechanical Design Engineer – Parts & Refurbishments

About the role

Schlam Payload is looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys collaborating with customers and internal teams to solve technical challenges and improve mining equipment performance. You will be involved from problem investigation through to delivering practical engineering solutions that are built, tested, and deployed on mine sites.

Key responsibilities

• Work with customers and stakeholders to understand operational challenges and develop engineering solutions.
• Support the design, development, and refinement of mining equipment and related products.
• Investigate equipment failures and performance issues, providing recommendations for improvement.
• Research and evaluate design concepts, specifications, and product enhancements.
• Collaborate with engineering, project, and operations teams to deliver projects from concept to implementation.
• Contribute to continuous‑improvement initiatives, new product development, and productivity enhancements.
• Build strong relationships with customers and identify opportunities to enhance product performance.

Required profile

• Degree‑qualified Mechanical Engineer or equivalent experience.
• Strong communication skills and ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
• Knowledge of heavy mobile equipment and manufacturing processes.
• Proactive, solutions‑focused attitude.
• Experience delivering engineering design projects.
• Interest in continuous improvement and product development.
