Mechanical Design Engineer – Heavy Earthmoving Equipment

About the role

Join Hitachi Construction Machinery Australia’s engineering team in Wacol, Brisbane as a Mechanical Design Engineer. You will develop functional, safe and sustainable solutions for heavy mobile earth‑moving equipment used by mining customers.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver 3D CAD models, detailed drawings and design documentation for equipment modifications.
• Perform static and fatigue hand calculations and support finite element analysis to validate product integrity.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify continuous‑improvement opportunities and ensure compliance with engineering standards and safety requirements.
• Provide technical expertise to operations, service teams and customers, supporting product development and engineering investigations.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering with a strong safety focus.
• Professional accreditation such as CPEng or RPEQ is highly regarded.
• Customer‑focused mindset and excellent communication skills for stakeholder engagement.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency with 3D CAD software, preferably SolidWorks.
• Experience using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.
• Ability to perform static and fatigue hand calculations.
