Manager – Health Safety & Wellbeing

About the role

Monash University is seeking a senior manager to lead its Health, Safety and Wellbeing (HSW) function across the multi‑site Clayton campus and beyond. Reporting to the Buildings and Property Business Support leadership group, you will set strategic and operational direction for HSW across a large, complex organisation.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve HSW management systems aligned with legislation and university policy.
• Lead and mentor a team of HSW professionals, building capability and consistent practice.
• Partner with operational leaders to embed a proactive safety culture throughout university operations.
• Analyse incident data, risk registers and audit outcomes to drive measurable safety performance improvements.

Required profile

• Substantial experience managing HSW functions within complex organisations.
• Demonstrated ability to lead and develop specialist safety teams.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to influence without authority.
• Experience applying HSW principles within a university or similarly large institutional property portfolio is highly regarded.

Required skills

• Sound knowledge of Victorian OHS legislation, codes of practice and workers' compensation frameworks.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Work Health and Safety or a related discipline.
