Manager City Strategy

About the role

Melton City Council is seeking a Manager City Strategy to lead strategic planning, urban design, heritage, open space and sustainability functions. This senior position will shape the future growth of Melbourne’s west by translating policy into practical outcomes for the community.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the development of policies, planning frameworks and structure plans for growth areas, industrial precincts and major government projects.
• Coordinate a multidisciplinary team of coordinators and specialist staff, setting priorities, clarifying responsibilities and ensuring delivery of strategic outcomes.
• Represent Council with state agencies, developers, industry and community stakeholders, providing clear advice and advancing complex matters.
• Integrate sustainability, climate resilience and circular‑economy considerations into land‑use and infrastructure planning.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in strategic planning, land‑use or a closely related field, preferably within local government or a comparable public‑sector environment.
• Proven leadership capability to guide multidisciplinary teams, manage competing demands and deliver results.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with internal colleagues, government agencies, industry and community groups.
• Ability to communicate complex planning matters clearly and to translate strategy into actionable policies.
