Major Projects Director – Transportation

About the role

AECOM is seeking a senior leader to direct multi‑billion‑dollar transport programmes across Australia and globally. The role oversees end‑to‑end delivery, multidisciplinary design integration and client relationships for high‑profile projects such as high‑speed rail.

Key responsibilities

• Lead delivery of large‑scale transport programmes, managing scope, schedule, cost, risk, safety and quality.
• Direct multidisciplinary design teams (rail, civil, tunnels, stations, systems) and manage technical interfaces.
• Provide governance, design assurance and program controls, including change management and reporting.
• Build senior client relationships and represent AECOM at executive level with governments, partners and regulators.
• Develop commercial strategies for alliances, D&C, ECI, PPP and other collaborative contracts.
• Champion digital delivery (BIM, digital engineering, model‑based design) to improve coordination and efficiency.
• Embed sustainability, resilience and social outcomes into project delivery.

Required profile

• Proven leadership of major transport infrastructure programmes (rail/metro preferred) with experience in complex, multidisciplinary environments.
• Successful track record in collaborative delivery models (alliances, D&C, ECI, PPP) and commercial stewardship.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with credibility at senior client and board levels.
• Ability to mentor and grow high‑performing teams, fostering accountability and wellbeing.
