Maintenance Electrician – Asset Management

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking qualified Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians to join the Asset Management team at the Bell Bay Aluminium Smelter in Tasmania. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing fixed plant assets while operating on a continuous shift roster.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and replace electrical equipment across the plant.
• Perform planned maintenance on PLCs, instrumentation, motor drives, autonomous forklift equipment and other plant assets.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate, repair and service fixed plant electrical systems.
• Execute both planned and unplanned breakdown maintenance, prioritising tasks and managing repair schedules.
• Collaborate effectively within a team and work independently as required.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal and team safety.
• Valid Australian C‑class driver’s licence.
• Australian ‘A’ grade Electrical licence.
• Instrumentation Certificate.
• Proven experience in fault finding and repairing electrical equipment.

Required skills

• PLC programming and SCADA operation (desirable).
• Electrical equipment maintenance.
• Instrumentation knowledge.
• Motor drives and VSDs.
• Experience with conveyors, crushers, ship loaders or similar heavy‑industry equipment.
