About the role
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) is seeking a PO3 Legal Officer to join its Townsville team. This temporary, full‑time position lasts for six months with the possibility of extension, offering the chance to work on complex criminal prosecutions and contribute to Queensland’s justice system.
Key responsibilities
- Prepare prosecution matters and appeal submissions with accuracy and timeliness.
- Build and maintain relationships with defence counsel, police officers, victims, witnesses and other stakeholders.
- Represent the Director in court, including bail applications, sentencing, committal hearings and appeals across Magistrates and higher courts.
- Collaborate with complainants and families, particularly in sensitive sexual or violent offence cases.
- Lead, supervise and motivate legal support staff to ensure high performance.
- Contribute to initiatives that improve work practices and organisational efficiency.
Required profile
- Demonstrated ability to apply legal principles and draft legal documents.
- Strong advocacy experience in Magistrates and/or higher courts.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for consulting, negotiating and collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
- Ability to handle sensitive and high‑profile cases with professionalism and integrity.
