Legal Officer

About the role

The Parole Board Queensland seeks a Legal Officer to provide expert legal advice and support to the Board and its Secretariat. This role is central to ensuring that parole decisions are made transparently, legally sound, and in line with Queensland legislation.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare timely legal advice, reports, correspondence and briefing notes on parole‑related matters.
• Liaise with Crown Law and external legal service providers to ensure a coordinated approach.
• Analyse case law, legislative frameworks and risk factors to guide Board decisions.
• Support the Board in drafting recommendations and outcomes for parole applications.
• Monitor emerging legal developments and advise on governance and risk mitigation.

Required profile

• Strong problem‑solving ability and capacity to work in a demanding environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills.
• Demonstrated knowledge of current case law, legislative governance and risk management.
• Ability to produce clear, concise legal documentation under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis.
• Drafting of legal advice, reports and briefing notes.
• Liaison with external legal bodies such as Crown Law.
• Understanding of Queensland parole legislation and related case law.
