Legal Counsel

About the role

As Legal Counsel you will work at the heart of a complex, dynamic university, providing commercial and procurement legal support. You will draft, negotiate and advise on a broad range of contracts while partnering with senior leaders to deliver practical, solutions‑focused advice.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely, pragmatic legal advice across commercial, property, employment, research, governance and regulatory matters.
• Draft, review and negotiate contracts, agreements and other legal documents.
• Identify legal risks and deliver practical solutions supporting strategic objectives.
• Support major university projects including procurement, technology, construction, leasing, and intellectual property.
• Review policies and procedures for compliance and risk management.
• Liaise with external legal providers and specialist advisors as required.

Required profile

• Current NSW practising certificate (or ability to obtain one) with at least 4 years post‑qualification experience.
• Demonstrated experience in drafting, reviewing and negotiating commercial contracts.
• Proven ability to interpret, advise on and resolve complex legal issues.
• Strong relationship‑building skills with diverse stakeholders.
