Legal Counsel – Infrastructure & Renewable Energy

About the role

We are seeking a Legal Counsel to support a leading infrastructure and renewable energy player in Australia. The role sits at the intersection of construction law and the clean‑energy build‑out, providing legal oversight for wind, battery storage and transmission projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate customer, supplier and subcontractor agreements for infrastructure and renewable‑energy projects.
• Provide strategic advice on project delivery, contract interpretation, risk allocation and dispute avoidance.
• Advise on claims, variations, extensions of time and other contractual matters.
• Partner with commercial, engineering and procurement teams to ensure compliance with contractual and regulatory obligations.
• Develop and improve contract templates and contracting procedures.
• Identify and manage legal risk in line with corporate governance frameworks.
• Manage external legal counsel where required.
• Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting safety, environment and energy‑market compliance.
• Deliver training and guidance to project and commercial teams on key legal principles.

Required profile

• 3‑8 years post‑qualification experience (PQE) in construction, infrastructure or renewable‑energy law, either in‑house or in private practice.
• Strong grounding in construction and contract law, especially EPC and D&C models.
• Exposure to renewable‑energy or energy‑transition projects such as wind, BESS or transmission.
• Proven track record of drafting and negotiating complex contracts with commercial focus.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and ability to work within multidisciplinary project teams.
