Legal Counsel – Construction & Projects

About the role

Equans Solar and Storage is seeking an Australian‑qualified Construction Lawyer with 3‑5 years post‑admission experience to provide legal support across major construction, infrastructure, energy and engineering projects.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate a broad range of construction and commercial agreements, including EPC contracts, consultancy agreements, subcontracts, supply agreements, NDAs, O&M agreements, framework and alliance agreements.
• Advise project teams on contractual obligations, risk allocation and commercial implications, and support tender and bid teams in managing legal and contractual risks.
• Provide practical legal advice during project execution, assist with variations, extensions of time, defect management, security and payment issues, and ensure contract compliance and governance.
• Support the management of contractual claims and disputes, prepare legal positions, correspondence and settlement documentation, and work with external counsel on adjudications, mediations, arbitrations and litigation.
• Prepare board minutes, powers of attorney and advise on general commercial and corporate matters, ensuring compliance with legislation, regulatory and licensing requirements.

Required profile

• LLB and admitted legal practitioner in Australia with a current practising certificate.
• 3‑5 years post‑admission experience in a reputable law firm or in‑house team supporting construction, infrastructure, engineering or energy projects.
• Strong expertise in drafting, reviewing and negotiating construction and commercial contracts.
• Sound knowledge of Australian construction and commercial law and experience in claims, risk mitigation and dispute resolution.
• Excellent legal drafting, communication and stakeholder management skills, with a commercially minded and pragmatic approach.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work autonomously and exercise sound judgment.
