Lecturer in Medical Ethics

About the role

Monash University is seeking a Lecturer in Medical Ethics for its Clayton campus. The role leads and coordinates the Medical Ethics Program across the medical degree, working with the Monash Bioethics Centre and the Faculty of Medicine, Nursing and Health Sciences. It combines curriculum design, clinically relevant ethics teaching and research. The position is full-time, fixed-term for 3 years with a strong chance of a 1-year extension, at Level B ($123,138-$146,228) plus 17% superannuation.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and deliver high-quality, clinically relevant medical ethics coursework, lectures, tutorials and assessments across the medical program.
• Initiate, design and refresh course materials that challenge and engage medical students.
• Conduct independent and collaborative bioethics research, publish in refereed journals and seek external research funding.
• Consult with undergraduate students and supervise Honours or postgraduate research projects.
• Engage with faculty committees, school meetings and professional communities to advance bioethics.

Required profile

• Ph.D. in bioethics, medical ethics, philosophy, a relevant health discipline or a closely related field.
• Proven tertiary teaching experience with diverse student cohorts.
• Demonstrated ability to develop tertiary-level subject materials and assessments.
• Peer-reviewed publications and a track record or drive to secure research grants.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work across interdisciplinary academic and clinical teams.
