Lebanese-Speaking Companion Volunteer

About the role

HammondCare, an independent Christian charity, is seeking a Lebanese-speaking volunteer to visit an older resident living in its dementia-specific cottages. The visits provide companionship, conversation, cultural connection and social engagement; for people living with dementia, a familiar language and shared cultural experiences can bring comfort, confidence and a sense of belonging.

Key responsibilities

• Visit the resident for one hour, between 1:00pm and 3:00pm, Monday to Friday.
• Provide companionship, chat about family, share memories, discuss Lebanese traditions or simply spend time together.
• Maintain regular visits on the same day and time each week to build trust and familiarity.
• Commit to a minimum of 6 months.

Required profile

• Able to communicate in Lebanese Arabic.
• Kind, patient, reliable and able to connect with older people.
• 18 years or older.
• An NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare.

No special skills or experience are required. Visits can be weekly or fortnightly depending on availability. The role is focused on companionship and is not suitable for work experience or student placements. Interested applicants are contacted by phone or text, then by email if needed.
