Lead System Engineer

About the role

Kapsch is seeking an experienced Lead System Engineer to drive the delivery of two major tunnel Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) projects in Australia. You will oversee systems engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring reliable and high‑performance tunnel control and traffic management solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the technical delivery of two tunnel projects, acting as the primary Systems Engineer.
• Provide technical leadership to a geographically dispersed, multicultural team, ensuring on‑time, on‑scope, and on‑budget delivery.
• Coordinate execution with internal teams, subcontractors, partners, customers, and other stakeholders.
• Serve as the main technical point of contact for the customer, owning the solution and meeting contractual and operational requirements.
• Collaborate with the Project Manager on planning, risk management, issue resolution, and governance.
• Lead requirements analysis, solution definition, integration, verification, validation, and technical risk management.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 7 years of systems engineering and project management experience in both systems and software delivery.
• Proven experience delivering Intelligent Transportation Systems or Advanced Traffic Management Systems, especially for tunnels.
• Advanced level of English and ability to travel internationally (passport required).
