About the role
Hypersonix is an Australian aerospace engineering and advanced manufacturing company building hydrogen-powered scramjet aircraft. As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you will be the subject matter expert for airframes, wings, internal structures, actuators, mechanisms and ground support equipment, from concept through to qualification. This is a hands-on technical leadership role where you lead and develop a team, review and approve design and analysis artefacts, and help ensure engineering processes stay rigorous and improving.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the structural and mechanical integrity of hypersonic vehicles and ground systems, including airframes, wings, actuators, mechanisms, internal structures and GSE.
- Review and approve mechanical designs and analysis, ensuring they are assessed for manufacturability, reliability and FMEA.
- Ensure adherence to engineering process and guidelines and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage, mentor and develop your team on a day-to-day basis.
- Plan work packages and allocate resources in line with program schedules.
- Contribute to new materials, technologies and structural methods.
- Act as the structures and mechanisms voice in design reviews, non-conformance investigations and failure analyses.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.
- CPEng / RPEQ or a clear path to obtaining it.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in mechanical systems design and simulation within aerospace or a high-technology industry.
- Track record of leading and developing a team of engineers.
- Experience with configuration management and PLM systems.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any applicable security clearance or background checks, and legal right to live and work in Australia.
Required skills
- Deep expertise in mechanical design and analysis, with practical use of computer simulations and analysis tools.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to varied audiences.
- Comfortable in a fast-moving environment with shifting priorities.
- Bonus points for hypersonic or space systems experience, Siemens NX and Teamcentre, or weight and space-constrained product design.
What we offer
- Competitive salary and equity participation.
- Flexible working focused on output rather than hours.
- Funded professional development.
- Confidential Employee Assistance Program.
