Lead Designer / Architect - Bespoke Residential

About the role

An established Adelaide residential builder is appointing a Lead Designer / Architect for a newly created role, working on custom homes tailored to each client rather than standardised solutions. The position takes ownership of the design process, from initial client consultation and site assessment through concept development and construction documentation. It suits someone who enjoys the creative process, values client relationships and balances architectural design with practical construction outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Lead client consultations to understand design aspirations, lifestyle requirements and budgets.
• Assess site opportunities and constraints to develop tailored architectural concepts.
• Create functional designs that balance aesthetics, buildability and project budgets.
• Present design concepts and guide clients through key decisions.
• Collaborate with the Interior Design and construction teams to deliver cohesive outcomes.
• Develop 3D concepts and progress designs through documentation and construction.
• Contribute ideas to strengthen design processes and influence future projects.

Required profile

• At least five years' experience in architectural or building design, ideally in bespoke residential projects.
• Experience managing the design process from initial brief through to developed concepts.
• Strong client communication and presentation skills, with confidence giving design advice.
• Sound understanding of residential construction, site constraints, budgets and buildability.
• Architectural registration is welcomed but not essential.

Required skills

• Proficiency in ArchiCAD, or willingness to transition.
• Enscape experience is advantageous.
