Lead Data Engineer

About the role

Intrepid Travel is looking for an experienced Lead Data Engineer to design, build and evolve its enterprise data platform and engineering capability. The role works closely with the data team, architects, engineers and senior leaders to define the direction of the data ecosystem and build a scalable, secure and trusted platform that strengthens analytics, reporting, insights and future AI initiatives. It is a full-time, permanent position with a hybrid model (2 days from home) based in the Melbourne headquarters on Collins Street.

Key responsibilities

• Drive the modernisation and migration of legacy data systems
• Establish best practices and build robust data ingestion, modelling and transformation capabilities
• Build strong stakeholder relationships to influence decisions and take ownership of the data foundation

Required profile

• Proven experience building enterprise-scale data solutions and upgrading legacy data platforms
• 8+ years of experience building and leading enterprise-scale data solutions
• Experience designing and delivering modern cloud-based data platforms
• Full data lifecycle experience, from ingestion and transformation through to analytics and consumption

Required skills

• Strong SQL and Python skills
• Modern cloud data platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, BigQuery or equivalent
• Data platform migration, CI/CD, automated testing, monitoring and infrastructure-as-code
