Lawyer – Support Survivors in Redress Schemes

About the role

We are seeking a qualified Lawyer to join Knowmore for a 12‑month fixed‑term position. The role supports survivors of institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations as they navigate the National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme. You will provide legal information, advice and assistance while working in a trauma‑informed, culturally safe environment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accurate legal information and guidance to clients applying for redress under the relevant schemes.
• Collaborate with social work, financial counselling, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement teams to ensure holistic client support.
• Assist clients in preparing and progressing applications, addressing complex legal issues with sensitivity and respect.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of redress legislation, personal injury, human rights and administrative law.
• Document client interactions and case progress in accordance with Knowmore’s confidentiality standards.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with a genuine commitment to survivor‑centred practice.
• Strong communication skills and ability to build trust with clients experiencing trauma.
• Experience or interest in redress, personal injury, human rights, administrative law, community legal services or First Nations justice issues.
• Demonstrated cultural humility and capacity to work in a trauma‑informed setting.
