Lawyer – Government Advisory (Melbourne)

About the role

Our client, a leading Australian law firm with a strong Government Advisory practice, is seeking a Lawyer or Associate to join its high‑performing team in Melbourne. You will work alongside senior partners, handling matters for a major Commonwealth Government client while receiving excellent mentoring and development.

Key responsibilities

• Draft summaries of evidence and statements of issues.
• Prepare litigation strategies and legal submissions.
• Appear at directions hearings and assist with case conferences and substantive hearings.
• Undertake complex statutory interpretation and administrative law analysis.
• Collaborate closely with senior lawyers and counsel on significant merits‑review matters.

Required profile

• Approximately 1–3 years post‑admission experience.
• Experience or genuine interest in government advisory, litigation or administrative law.
• Strong drafting, analytical and statutory interpretation abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Collaborative approach with a desire to learn and develop.
