Lawyer, Financial Services Regulation (2-5 Years PQE)

About the role

Gilbert + Tobin is hiring a 2-5 year PQE lawyer for its Financial Services Regulation team, led by Silvana Wood, a market leader in regulatory advice on director and senior executive accountability, governance and regulatory risk. The role spans advisory, investigations, transactions and reform, with direct mentorship from a partner and early responsibility on complex matters.

Key responsibilities

• Core regulatory advisory: AFSL/ACL licensing, Chapter 7 obligations, breach reporting; consumer law, claims handling and unfair contract terms; APRA authorisation and prudential regulation
• Governance and accountability: FAR/BEAR implementation, executive accountability, remuneration and consequence management
• Investigations and enforcement: acting on internal and regulatory investigations into director and senior executive conduct, advising on ASIC and APRA enforcement matters, supporting remediation programs
• Risk and compliance transformation: designing compliance frameworks, advising on large-scale regulatory change and reform such as payments reform, AML/CTF, privacy and digital regulation
• Transactions and strategic projects: regulatory aspects of M&A, capital raisings and corporate transactions, regulatory due diligence and post-acquisition integration
• Fintech and innovation: advising fintechs and payment providers, with exposure to digital assets and payments regulation

Required profile

• 2-5 years of experience in financial services regulation
• Strong grounding in key regulatory frameworks
• Proactive and commercially minded approach

Required skills

• Excellent drafting and analytical skills
• Knowledge of the Financial Accountability Regime (FAR) and Banking Executive Accountability Regime (BEAR)
