Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) Project Manager

About the role

Austal Defence Australia is looking for a Project Manager for the Landing Craft Heavy (LCH) project. You will oversee project planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, reporting and governance, working closely with the Senior Project Manager and Senior Program Manager. As Control Account Manager for the PMO and Risk Champion, you will ensure accurate forecasting, performance monitoring and informed decisions, and support contractual, financial and operational objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Lead PMO governance, ensuring compliance with program management frameworks and reporting requirements
• Oversee project controls including cost, schedule, forecasting and performance measurement
• Act as Control Account Manager for the PMO, supporting Earned Value Management (EVM) implementation and reporting
• Monitor program performance, identify risks and opportunities and drive corrective actions
• Support the development, maintenance and analysis of integrated project schedules and critical path activities
• Drive financial performance through budget oversight, forecasting and cost management
• Build relationships with internal stakeholders, senior leadership, customers and project teams
• Promote continuous improvement by improving PMO processes, capturing lessons learned and supporting best practice

Required profile

• Diploma or degree in Project Management, Engineering, Business or a related discipline
• Formal project management training or equivalent experience
• Experience in Defence acquisition, sustainment or complex project environments
• Eligibility for a Defence security clearance

Required skills

• Strong understanding of Earned Value Management principles and application
• Understanding of project controls: scheduling, cost control and performance measurement
• Understanding of ASDEFCON and Defence contracting frameworks
• ERP systems, preferably IFS
• Scheduling systems, preferably Primavera P6
