Manufacturing Test Engineer

About the role

Anduril Industries, a defense technology company focused on subsea robotics, is looking for a Manufacturing Test Engineer in Sydney. The engineer develops and implements high-fidelity, automated test processes at component and system level, working with engineering staff and electro-mechanical technicians to raise testing capability and quality while scaling production. The role covers the test software, automation, tooling and infrastructure behind the test stations.

Key responsibilities

• Build test capabilities across the manufacturing value stream: PCBA bring-up, electrical boxes/bottles bring-up, system-level checkouts and acceptance testing, and component-level process validation.
• Develop, run and manage the test ecosystem to de-risk hardware and meet reliability targets.
• Perform hands-on, data-driven root cause analysis of electromechanical subsystems.
• Design, implement and maintain semi-automated test equipment and protocols for subsystem characterization.
• Act as first point of contact for test technicians, diagnosing production test issues and escalating with Electrical Design and Software when needed.
• Work with the design and systems teams on risk assessments, oversee technician training and track bug fixes and improvements.
• Maintain testing logs and data, build a library of error codes with troubleshooting logic and diagrams, and write test instructions usable in MES or similar systems.
• Optimize end-of-line factory acceptance testing of AUVs and carry out hands-on testing and rework of PCBA and electrical components.

Required profile

• Degree in Software, Computer, Electrical, Mechatronic or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 3+ years of relevant experience, preferably in test design of electromechanical hardware in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience developing full system test plans and running them on fast product-development timelines.
• Australian citizen able to obtain and hold an Australian Government NV2 security clearance.

Required skills

• Hardware testing and automated test systems (e.g. LabVIEW, Test Stand).
• Programming in Python, MATLAB, Shell or similar.
• Communication protocols such as USB, Ethernet, RS232, RS485, PCIe, HDMI, CAN.
• Preferred: experience with subsea robotics or AUV/UUV, PLM, MES and TES systems, NixOS or declarative configuration tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef), pytest-based test harnesses, and exposure to high-voltage systems up to 400V.
