Laboratory Technician – Microbiology

About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician specializing in Microbiology to join our NATA‑accredited laboratory in Newcastle. The role involves preparing and analysing environmental and occupational samples, as well as travelling to sites to collect specimens.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse microbiology samples, ensuring tests are completed within required holding times.
• Follow quality control protocols to maintain high analytical standards.
• Adhere to laboratory safety procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.
• Complete all required documentation accurately and promptly.
• Maintain a clean and organised workspace through regular housekeeping.
• Drive to client sites to collect samples as needed.

Required profile

• Degree in Science with a focus on Microbiology (essential).
• Strong attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proactive, ‘can‑do’ attitude and strong teamwork orientation.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Previous experience in a similar laboratory role is desirable.
