Laboratory Technician - Metals Team

About the role

ALS Environmental is looking for a Laboratory Technician to join its Metals team at the Kirwan laboratory in Townsville. It suits someone with a genuine interest in science who wants to build laboratory skills in a hands-on, technical environment, with on-the-job training across analytical processes, laboratory techniques and quality procedures. The role delivers accurate, high-quality results for clients through the preparation and analysis of environmental samples.

The position is on a week-by-week rotating roster, with shifts of 6am-2:15pm and 10:30am-6:45pm, Monday to Friday.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and analyse environmental samples.
• Ensure preparation, analytical procedures and related tasks follow ALS Quality Work Instructions.
• Organise tasks to support daily workflow and maximise efficiency.
• Complete tasks within the timeframes set by the Supervisor and relevant analysis standards.
• Identify and highlight anomalies in results, sample types or sample behaviour.

Required profile

• Genuine interest in science, supported by university or TAFE qualifications.
• Experience with ICP-MS is advantageous.
• High level of attention to detail and strong communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work well in a team and manage time effectively.
• Eligible to work at ALS: citizen or permanent resident of the country of application, or holds or can obtain a valid working visa.

Required skills

• Understanding of good laboratory practices.
• High level of computer literacy.
• Experience with ICP-MS (advantageous).
