Laboratory Technician – Construction Materials Testing

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will conduct a range of laboratory tests on construction materials for the Snowy 2.0 pumped‑hydro project in the Snowy Mountains, NSW. The role ensures that soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock meet project specifications and safety standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory tests on soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock in line with NATA and project requirements.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain testing equipment, recording results accurately.
• Implement quality control measures and document all laboratory activities.
• Communicate test findings to engineers, project managers and construction crews.
• Identify testing challenges and propose practical solutions.

Required profile

• Associate degree or equivalent certification in Laboratory Technology, Civil Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a construction‑materials laboratory, preferably on tunnelling projects.
• C Class Driver’s Licence and White Card.
• Strong knowledge of laboratory safety protocols and quality management systems.

Required skills

• Proficiency with laboratory testing equipment for soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock.
• Advanced use of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
