Laboratory Technician – Construction Materials Testing

About the role

The Laboratory Technician will support the Snowy 2.0 pumped‑hydro project by performing a range of laboratory tests on construction materials. This position ensures that soils, concrete, shotcrete and rock meet the rigorous standards required for safety and performance.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory tests on soil, concrete, shotcrete and rock in line with project specifications and NATA requirements.
• Implement quality control measures to guarantee accurate and reliable test results.
• Operate, calibrate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
• Record and report test results with comprehensive documentation.
• Promote and adhere to laboratory safety protocols.
• Identify testing challenges and provide effective solutions.
• Communicate findings to engineers, project managers and other stakeholders.
• Collaborate with construction crews and other technicians to ensure seamless workflow.

Required profile

• Associate degree or equivalent certification in Laboratory Technology, Civil Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years experience in a construction‑materials laboratory, preferably on tunnelling projects.
• C Class Driver’s Licence and a White Card.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, Quality Management Systems and NATA reporting requirements.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to operate and maintain laboratory testing equipment.
• Strong attention to detail and accurate data recording.
