Junior Design Engineer

About the role

BlueScope’s Design Solutions Group is looking for a Junior Design Engineer to join its Minchinbury office. Working with a senior engineering mentor, you will create concept‑level structural designs that demonstrate how BlueScope’s steel and composite products can be used in a variety of building projects.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare concept‑level structural schemes from project briefs, showing how building products integrate into proposed structures.
• Develop structural calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
• Investigate design problems and explore practical alternatives with the team.
• Use design and review tools such as RAPT, Strand7, Space Gass and Bluebeam.
• Collaborate with state‑based Business Development Managers to clarify requirements and deliver designs on schedule.
• Manage multiple design tasks across different project stages, communicating priorities and seeking support when needed.

Required profile

• Degree in civil or structural engineering.
• Practical experience designing building structures, preferably in structural consulting.
• Understanding of structural behaviour and engineering principles.
• Attention to detail and ability to organise work as priorities shift.
• Initiative in asking questions, following through on tasks and developing technical knowledge.
• Collaborative approach and clear communication with supporting engineers.
