About the role
HammondCare is looking for a friendly volunteer to spend time with an older Italian gentleman who would love some company and conversation. He has spent much of his life connected to Italian culture and language, speaks Italian comfortably and would enjoy sharing stories, memories and laughter with someone who understands or wants to practice the language. Visits take place in the older person's home within the local community.
Key responsibilities
- Chat in Italian and share stories
- Play cards together
- Share a coffee and friendly conversation
- Reminisce about family, food, travel and life experiences
- Provide regular companionship and social connection
Required profile
- A minimum 6-month commitment
- Weekly or fortnightly visits, on the same day and time each time, between 9:00am and 5:00pm, Monday to Sunday
- No special skills or experience required; kind, reliable and patient
- Italian-speaking volunteers are encouraged to apply
- 18 years or older
- National Volunteer Police Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
