Investment Alternatives Specialist – Real Estate

About the role

Mercer is looking for an Investment Alternatives Specialist focused on real estate to join its Investments team in Sydney. This hybrid position requires at least three days per week in the office and involves portfolio management, manager research, and client consulting across Australian real‑estate assets.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with end‑to‑end portfolio management, including transaction underwriting, due diligence, asset management, portfolio analysis and client reporting.
• Produce high‑quality manager research deliverables and contribute sector expertise to strategic asset allocation decisions.
• Provide technical support and advice to client‑facing consulting colleagues, own real‑estate reporting deliverables and represent Mercer at investor meetings and industry conferences.

Required profile

• Minimum two years of experience in investment, funds management, advisory or direct property.
• Strong understanding of macro‑economic factors affecting real‑estate investors and knowledge of the superannuation industry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail and ability to form independent opinions in a flat team structure.

Required skills

• Quantitative, research and analytical abilities.
• Knowledge of indirect (funds, co‑investments, SMAs) and/or direct real‑estate investments.
