Intermediate Water Design Engineer – Perth

About the role

Fortescue is seeking an Intermediate Water Design Engineer to join its Perth office. You will work on water infrastructure projects across the company’s mine sites, delivering detailed design packages under the guidance of senior engineers while ensuring safety, cost‑effectiveness, and compliance with Australian standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform hydraulic modelling for pipelines, borefields, pump stations, ponds and tanks.
• Prepare construction drawings, quantity estimates, scope definitions and technical work packages.
• Facilitate design reviews, conduct field inspections and ensure alignment with basis‑of‑design criteria.
• Produce final engineering deliverables such as pipeline schematics, general arrangement drawings, P&IDs and critical equipment selections.
• Support capital estimating through material take‑off (MTO) calculations and quantity assessments.
• Provide construction support via technical queries, design updates and equipment data‑sheet preparation.
• Evaluate vendor proposals for budget and technical compliance.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Mechanical, Chemical or Civil Engineering (or equivalent experience in piping systems).
• Minimum 2 years of relevant design experience.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to travel to site for short scoping trips.
• Problem‑solving mindset and ability to work independently.
