Insurance Associate - Common Law / Work Injury Damages

About the role

HWLE Lawyers, one of Australia's largest legal partnerships, is looking for an experienced lawyer to advise and defend employers and insurers in work injury damages and industrial common law claims. The associate works closely with Partner Joanna Apostolopoulos on personal injury matters involving employer's liability and claims under the Civil Liability Act 2002 (NSW). The firm offers flexible work arrangements including remote working.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high-quality legal advice and representation to insurers, self-insured employers, specialised insurers and regulators
• Manage personal injury claims and statutory indemnity claims under the Civil Liability Act
• Analyse and advise on liability, strategy and risk management, including indemnity, liability and quantum assessments
• Draft court documents and contribute to litigation strategy
• Advocate in the Supreme Court, District Court and Personal Injury Commission, including mediations and interlocutory matters
• Negotiate commercial outcomes for clients

Required profile

• At least 3 years of practice in common law personal injury claims
• Full working rights in Australia and a valid practising certificate
• Good interpersonal and communication skills with clients and other parties

Required skills

• Excellent drafting and analytical capability
• Experience in common law personal injury claims
