Hydraulic Services Design Engineer

About the role

A multi-discipline engineering firm in Melbourne is looking for a Hydraulic Services Design Engineer to coordinate and carry out hydraulic services design for projects such as aged care, health and hospital, retail, residential, defence, industrial and government. The role is described as a key investment position with scope to progress to Principal, and the designer contributes proactively to marketing and client liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Manage small to large projects, supervise and guide junior team members with minimal supervision, and help develop new business
• Develop hydraulic services designs, design basis, scope of works and specifications in line with standards and good engineering practice
• Maintain knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS3500, AS2419, AS5601) and local requirements
• Take part in construction support: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits and design change management
• Identify variations and report their impact on schedule and budget to the client or manager
• Coordinate with other disciplines and check their drawings, and manage project risks
• Support fee proposals and track time, budget, invoicing and cash flow
• Use REVIT and CAD occasionally when needed

Required profile

• Good level of project management and technical ability across engineering disciplines
• QBCC Hydraulic Services licence, RPEQ or ability to obtain it
• Independent, able to work with minimal supervision and solve problems creatively
• Good report writing and communication skills; applies only to candidates living in Australia
