Hydraulic Designer - Building Services

About the role

A multi-discipline engineering firm in Sydney is looking for a Hydraulic Designer to coordinate and carry out hydraulic services design for a wide range of projects, including aged care, health and hospital, retail, residential, defence, industrial and government work. The role is described as a key investment position with scope to progress to Principal, and the designer contributes proactively to marketing and client liaison.

Key responsibilities

• Manage small to large projects, supervising and guiding junior team members with minimal supervision
• Help develop new business and manage projects efficiently and profitably
• Support fee proposals and track time, budget, invoicing and cash flow
• Work with colleagues to deliver projects to a high standard
• Maintain knowledge of relevant Australian Standards (e.g. AS3500, AS2419, AS5601) and local requirements
• Develop hydraulic services designs, design basis, scope of works and specifications in line with standards and good engineering practice
• Take part in construction support: RFIs, submittal reviews, site visits and design change management
• Report time variations and their impact on schedule and budget to the client or manager
• Coordinate with other disciplines and check their drawings
• Manage project risks and issues proactively
• Use REVIT and CAD occasionally when needed

Required profile

• Good level of project management and technical ability across engineering disciplines
• QBCC Hydraulic Services licence, RPEQ or ability to obtain it
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and to solve problems creatively
• Good report writing and communication skills, able to talk to clients, staff and management
• Focus on time and budget deliverables
• Candidates must live in Australia
