Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) – PGY3+ – Full‑time starting Nov 2026

About the role

The Royal Melbourne Hospital is seeking a passionate Hospital Medical Officer (HMO) to join its multidisciplinary team from 2 November 2026. This full‑time, ongoing position is designed for doctors who have completed at least three postgraduate years and are eager to develop their clinical expertise across a range of acute and sub‑acute services.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality medical care to in‑patients across diverse specialties.
• Participate in scheduled rotations that broaden clinical experience and support career development.
• Undertake a secondment to another health service, which may be local or up to three hours away, to gain exposure to rural or regional practice.
• Collaborate with senior clinicians, nursing staff, and allied health professionals in multidisciplinary teams.
• Maintain accurate clinical documentation and contribute to teaching activities for junior staff.

Required profile

• Current General Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA) or eligibility via the Competent Authority Pathway.
• PGY3 or higher status by the commencement date.
• Willingness to undertake a secondment to another health service.
• Preference for medical or surgical‑focused training should be indicated in the cover letter.
