About the role

Brighton Grammar School, an Anglican secondary school founded in 1882, is seeking experienced teachers to join its PE, Health, Wellbeing and RE faculty in January 2027. The role sits within a high-performing faculty of supportive colleagues, and experience teaching Health and Human Development is highly regarded.

Key responsibilities

• Use evidence-based teaching strategies to deliver a curriculum that engages and challenges each student, in line with the school's effective learner model.
• Deliver a knowledge-based curriculum that encourages and supports student innovation.
• Use explicit instruction techniques and frequent formative assessment to check for student understanding.
• Collaborate with colleagues in planning, implementing and reviewing the curriculum through the design and editing of shared resources.
• Establish and foster relationships with students, staff and parents.
• Take part in the school's cultural, pastoral and co-curricular activities; co-curricular involvement is limited to one season of sport.

Required profile

• Experience teaching Health and Physical Education to secondary school-aged children.
• VIT registration is essential.
• Commitment to continuous improvement and self-reflection as a teacher.
• Willingness to be involved in the school's pastoral life and to satisfy child protection screening.

Required skills

• Effective classroom management skills.
• Strong understanding of the principles of the science of learning.
• Experience using evidence-informed teaching strategies based on the work of Barak Rosenshine, Doug Lemov, John Hattie and Jim Knight.
• Knowledge of research findings relevant to student learning and education.
