Health Care Worker - Residential Aged Care

About the role

Mallee Track Health and Community Service is recruiting a part-time Health Care Worker for its Residential Aged Care department in Sea Lake, Victoria. The worker is a member of a multidisciplinary health care team who provides quality nursing care, within the scope of their education, competencies and skills, under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role meets the personal care needs of customers and helps them stay independent and make choices, and also provides personal care assistance to community clients living at home.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, implement and evaluate care for all residents systematically.
• Assist with showering, dressing, toileting, grooming and leisure activities while maintaining dignity and privacy.
• Provide companionship and emotional support, and promote positive relationships between residents, relatives and staff.
• Work as a multi-disciplinary team member with nurses, doctors and other health professionals.
• Keep accurate records of progress on each customer's care plan and report safety issues.
• Follow organisational policies and procedures, practice duty of care, and keep strict confidentiality.
• Attend mandatory training and complete performance appraisals as scheduled.

Required profile

• Certificate III in Individual Support, or willingness to obtain it.
• Relevant experience for the position.
• Current Victorian driver's licence and police check; a Working With Children Check is required for nominated positions.
• Ability to apply high ethical standards and represent the organisation professionally.

Required skills

• Good communication and organisational skills.
• Knowledge of the special needs of older people.
• Skills to perform personal care tasks as required.
• Desirable: understanding of OH&S including infection control and manual handling, and a current First Aid certificate.
