Head of Finance - National Membership Organisation

About the role

A respected national not-for-profit membership association delivering education, professional development, advocacy and events across Australia and New Zealand is looking for a Head of Finance. The role leads a small, capable finance team and covers financial stewardship, governance, compliance, reporting and continuous improvement. It is based in North Sydney on a hybrid basis (3 days office, 2 days home).

Key responsibilities

• Lead and develop the finance team, providing coaching, support and direction.
• Oversee financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting and cashflow management.
• Maintain strong financial controls, governance and compliance frameworks.
• Manage external audits and statutory reporting requirements.
• Support executive leadership with financial analysis and commercial insights.
• Partner with stakeholders across the organisation on planning and decision-making.
• Improve systems, processes and operational efficiency, and prepare Board and Executive reporting packs and presentations.

Required profile

• Seasoned finance professional combining technical capability with leadership skills.
• Qualifications in Finance or Accounting; CA or CPA qualification highly regarded.
• Experience managing audits, external stakeholders, budgeting and forecasting.
• Hands-on leader able to mentor and develop a small finance team.
• Ability to explain complex financial information clearly to non-finance audiences.
