Head of Finance

About the role

The Head of Finance holds overall responsibility for all financial aspects of the business unit, working under the direction of the BU Leader with a dotted reporting line to the Group Finance Director. The role covers operational finance, compliance, annual audits, budgeting, forecasting and reporting. It starts without direct reports but is intended to evolve into coaching and mentoring at least one direct report.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with the BU Leader to achieve the BU's KPIs and support strategic decisions
• Manage day-to-day financial operations of several P&Ls and legal entities in Australia and the UK
• Run month-end, quarter-end and year-end closes to strict deadlines, and prepare monthly business reviews and quarterly strategy reviews with variance analysis
• Prepare quarterly budgets and forecasts, and oversee weekly cashflow forecasting, accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll governance
• Analyse large projects, review monthly project reports and coordinate regular Finance/Operations reviews
• Ensure financial controls and compliance with Group policies, with a focus on correct revenue recognition under IFRS, and comply with statutory reporting
• Manage local UK audit and internal controls, and liaise with internal and external auditors and accounting firms
• Invest in the professional development of finance team members through training and mentoring
• Lead process-improvement initiatives using technology, AI and automation, and support other Modaxo business units as needed

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Business, Finance, Commerce or a related discipline
• 7-10 years of professional experience, including 5-7 years in financial and management accounting in a commercial environment
• Accredited CA/CPA qualification
• Proven track record in strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting and commercial decision support to senior leadership
• Previous experience in a Project Delivery and Service/Support environment is highly desirable

• In-depth knowledge of IFRS
• Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel
• Strong analytical skills and exceptional numeric aptitude
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
