Head of Accounting

About the role

Thales Australia is seeking a strategic and commercially minded Head of Accounting to lead a critical finance function during a period of significant transformation. Based in West Sydney's Rydalmere, you will ensure the integrity of financial operations while driving process improvement and shaping the future of finance.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the integrity of financial reporting, general ledger and balance sheet governance.
• Build high‑performing onshore and offshore accounting teams.
• Drive finance transformation, process optimisation and ERP implementation (Oracle preferred).
• Strengthen controls, reduce risk and improve operational efficiency.
• Partner with senior leaders to influence business performance and decision‑making.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in financial and transactional accounting with deep knowledge of IFRS and Australian Accounting Standards.
• Proven leadership in accounting operations and shared services, including managing offshore or BPO partners.
• Strong stakeholder management and ability to influence at executive level.
• Track record of driving process improvement, automation and operational excellence.
• CA or CPA qualification and eligibility for a baseline Defence security clearance (Australian citizenship required).
