Geoff Williams Fellowship in Physics (Lecturer Level B)

About the role

The School of Physics, Chemistry and Earth Sciences at Adelaide University is inviting applications for the Geoff Williams Fellowship in Physics, a Lecturer (Level B) position based on the City East campus. It is a full-time fixed-term contract of 3 years, with potential for extension, aimed at an emerging academic with strong research and teaching potential. The fellowship supports a career in experimental physics, ideally contributing to research strengths in Quantum Materials, Solid State Physics and Quantum Technologies.

Key responsibilities

• Undertake experimental and/or theoretical research
• Contribute to the development of future teaching opportunities in areas such as solid-state physics
• Build collaborative networks that advance the field of physics
• Report to an Academic Lead and mentorship from a senior academic in Physics

Required profile

• PhD in Physics or equivalent higher degree awarded within the last 8 years, in an area aligned with the university's physics strengths
• Demonstrated research expertise in quantum materials, astrophysics, photonics, particle, nuclear and radiation physics or another relevant area
• Ability to conduct independent research and to work effectively in a team in a complex setting
• Strong interest in undergraduate and graduate education in Experimental Physics
• Commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

Required skills

• Demonstrated experience in grant writing and research funding applications, including developing compelling proposals and articulating research objectives and impact
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

What we offer

• Salary range of $117,100 - $138,515 per annum (Level B), plus 17% superannuation
