General Manager (Roving)
Stamford Hotels & Resorts
Job description
About the role
Stamford Hotels & Resorts, an owner-operated hospitality group with luxury hotels across Australia, is looking for a General Manager (Roving) to provide strategic, commercial and operational support across one or more hotels in the group. The role covers interim General Manager coverage, special projects and performance improvement initiatives, and may involve extensive interstate travel and long periods away from home. It is not an office-based role: the group wants a hands-on, commercially astute leader who is highly visible in operations.
Key responsibilities
- Drive revenue, profitability and asset value growth across assigned properties, working with Revenue, Sales and Marketing teams on pricing, business mix and distribution.
- Lead operational performance, continuous improvement and best-practice sharing across Rooms, Food & Beverage and support departments.
- Champion a guest-centric culture, review guest feedback and empower department heads and front-line teams.
- Manage relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, contractors and key clients, and negotiate commercial arrangements.
- Approve marketing strategies and campaigns, and monitor their commercial effectiveness.
- Ensure compliance with policies, corporate governance, health, safety and liquor regulations, and lead audits and corrective actions.
- Coach and mentor hotel management teams, support workforce and succession planning, and undertake projects and reviews directed by the Vice President of Operations or COO.
- Provide GM coverage during leave, vacancies or transitions, and stay flexible with working hours.
Required profile
- Minimum 10 years of progressive hotel management experience, including at least 5 years as a General Manager or equivalent senior leadership role, ideally in Australia.
- Proven ability to grow revenue and profitability while protecting service standards and guest satisfaction.
- Experience managing large and diverse teams and leading organisational change and special projects.
- Fluent English, unrestricted working rights in Australia, and willingness to travel extensively, including at short notice.
Required skills
- Strong understanding of hotel operations, Revenue Management, Sales, Marketing and Food & Beverage.
- Commercial acumen and stakeholder management, including negotiating with suppliers, vendors and contractors.
To apply, submit a cover letter and resume directly to the employer; no recruitment agencies are accepted.
