General Manager – Hospital Operations

About the role

The General Manager will lead the integrated operations of Mater Hospital Brisbane, a 300+ bed, Level 6 teaching facility located on the South Brisbane campus. Reporting to the Executive Director Mater Hospitals, you will shape strategic direction, drive performance and ensure the delivery of safe, high‑quality patient care.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee day‑to‑day operations across all clinical and support services, including ED, ICU, CCU, Cancer Centre and specialised units.
• Manage financial performance, budgeting and resource allocation to meet sustainability targets.
• Lead senior leadership teams to continuously improve patient outcomes, safety and quality standards.
• Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including government bodies, partners and community groups.
• Champion the hospital’s mission and values while fostering a high‑performance culture.

Required profile

• Strong leadership presence with a collaborative, people‑focused approach.
• Commercial acumen and ability to balance financial sustainability with patient‑centred care.
• Demonstrated experience engaging diverse stakeholders.

Required skills

• Operational hospital management experience.
• Track record of managing complex, multi‑disciplinary health services.
• Relevant tertiary qualification in business, finance, health‑care management or related field.
