Freelance Junior Designer

About the role

The Big Design Group is looking for a freelance junior designer to join its marketing team behind The Big Design Market and The Little Food Market, two popular design and food events held across Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane. The role covers everyday design work such as social media graphics, ad resizes, e-newsletter graphics, exhibitor assets and event collateral, with real deadlines and the chance to see your work at the events. You will work alongside an in-house senior designer, social media lead and marketing manager.

Key responsibilities

• Campaign design: social media graphics and carousels for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn; resizing and adapting ad creative for Meta, Google and other platforms; e-newsletter graphics from copy and briefs; website banners and image assets
• Event and exhibitor assets: marketing packs for exhibitors and sponsors, event collateral such as signage, maps, programs and print pieces, and help preparing exhibitor and sponsor images, logos and bios
• Team support: general design requests, supporting the senior designer on larger pieces, keeping files and templates organised, setting up and exporting files correctly for print and digital, following brand guidelines, and helping on site at some events with photography or content capture
• Manage your own workload against campaign deadlines and flag hold-ups early

Required profile

• Degree or diploma in graphic or communication design, or equivalent experience
• Some design experience through internships, study projects or freelance work; final-year students and recent graduates are welcome
• Portfolio showing digital and social design work
• Nice to have: interest in design, makers, food or events

Required skills

• Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
• Understanding of print and digital specs, including resolution and export settings
• Nice to have: basic motion or video editing (Premiere, After Effects or CapCut); e-newsletter platforms or website CMS experience
