Forensic Technician

About the role

The Forensic Technician will support forensic biology analysis in a state‑wide laboratory, applying standard operating procedures to process exhibits and samples. The role contributes to delivering accurate test results and expert advice to supervisors, clients and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Follow service quality, health and safety standards to ensure safe, high‑quality laboratory work.
• Perform forensic testing using accredited protocols, standards and instrumentation.
• Process laboratory samples, conduct basic histology and assist with case management in a high‑throughput environment.
• Develop methods, improve quality, and help introduce new technologies or processes.
• Provide results and factual evidence for the National Criminal Investigation DNA Database and, when required, for court proceedings.
• Support training of less‑experienced practitioners and contribute to the development of forensic procedures.

• Ability to work independently with decreasing supervision as experience grows.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills within a multi‑speciality laboratory.
• Willingness to engage in continuous professional development.
