Financial Controller

About the role

AXA XL is seeking a Financial Controller to lead its local finance team in Sydney, working in a hybrid model. You will be responsible for regulatory reporting, statutory accounting, tax compliance and supporting the CFO with reinsurance arrangements.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare APRA regulatory submissions, ICAAP reporting and engage with regulators on new standards.
• Maintain the compliance calendar and monitor statutory profitability of the Australian branch.
• Oversee timely tax filings, including corporate tax, GST, withholding tax and premium taxes with external advisors.
• Manage finance operations such as expense management, T&E system control and ledger oversight.
• Support reinsurance documentation, accounting for internal RI treaties and quarterly bordereaux reviews.
• Provide financial analysis to the Chief Actuary and perform scenario modelling for risk appetite and capital management.
• Update the risk register and finance‑related policies annually.
• Lead ad‑hoc analysis and assist the CFO on various strategic projects.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in General Insurance finance with deep knowledge of insurance P&L drivers.
• Strong strategic leadership, independent decision‑making and excellent communication skills.
• Highly organised with proactive analytical judgment and a focus on continuous improvement.
• Ethical reputation with a commitment to high professional standards.
• Bachelor’s degree plus CA or CPA qualification.
