Financial Controller

About the role

Freelancer.com, a global technology company listed on the ASX, is seeking a high‑calibre Financial Controller to lead its finance function across multiple subsidiaries and jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Lead month‑end, half‑year and year‑end closing processes and consolidate multi‑currency subsidiaries.
• Prepare statutory financial statements in accordance with IFRS/AASB and ensure timely ASX and regulatory filings.
• Own the global audit process, act as primary contact for external auditors and maintain robust internal controls.
• Manage global tax compliance, including GST/VAT, corporate income tax and R&D tax incentive claims.
• Oversee cash flow, intercompany settlements and FX risk management in a high‑volume transactional environment.
• Continuously refine and automate financial systems, workflows and ERP implementations.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with CA or CPA qualification.
• 8+ years of progressive finance experience, preferably starting at a Big 4 firm and including senior reporting or controllership roles in an ASX‑listed or high‑growth tech environment.
• Proven ability to lead and develop a global finance team.
• Detail‑oriented, able to thrive under reporting deadlines and demonstrate an “owner” mentality.

Required skills

• Deep knowledge of IFRS and AASB standards.
• Experience with complex multi‑currency consolidations.
• Proficiency with ERP systems and financial automation tools.
• Strong understanding of global tax compliance (GST/VAT, corporate tax, R&D incentives).
• Expertise in audit coordination and internal control frameworks.
