Finance Specialist - Sydney

About the role

A high-growth fintech serving customers across Australia, New Zealand and the UK is looking for a finance specialist for its Australian entity, based in the Sydney CBD in a fully office environment. Reporting to the Finance Manager, you will keep the finances accurate, timely and well organised, handling the day-to-day finance function from AP and AR through to month-end, BAS and statutory reporting. It suits an assistant accountant ready to broaden their remit and improve processes.

Key responsibilities

• Manage day-to-day AP, AR and oversee external bookkeepers
• Prepare monthly management accounts, budget variance analysis and key metric reports
• Support GST, PAYG withholding, FBT, payroll tax and BAS lodgements
• Assist with statutory financial statements alongside external auditors and advisors
• Monitor bank accounts and support treasury, including intercompany cash allocation and term deposits
• Partner with department managers and leadership on budgets, cash flow forecasts and projections
• Help prepare payroll for the Australian entity
• Drive process improvements and use AI to automate routine tasks
• Contribute to financial policies as the business scales

Required profile

• Degree in accounting, finance or a related field
• Working towards or recently completed CA, CPA or ACCA
• Experience as an assistant accountant or similar, with exposure to AP, AR, month-end and BAS
• Confidence working autonomously with regular check-ins from a remote manager
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach
• Openness to AI and automation, and comfort adopting new tools
• Desirable: payroll exposure and experience with external auditors or bookkeepers

What we offer

• Salary of up to $105,000 plus superannuation
• Permanent, full-time position in the Sydney CBD office
