Finance Officer

About the role

The Finance Officer will join the Finance team at Townsville City Council to manage daily treasury activities and support the continuity of council services. This fixed‑term position runs until August 2027 and offers the opportunity to work in a collaborative local‑government environment.

Key responsibilities

• Monitor daily cash balances and manage bank transactions.
• Complete bank reconciliations and resolve any discrepancies.
• Process payments and receipts through banking platforms.
• Prepare journals and support end‑of‑month financial activities.
• Assist with investment and debt administration.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, policies, and relevant legislation.

Required profile

• Experience in a Finance Officer role within a multi‑disciplinary setting.
• Strong attention to detail and problem‑solving capability.
• Commitment to a positive safety culture and compliance with health and safety standards.
• Qualifications equivalent to a Certificate IV in Business or progress toward a Bachelor degree in Business.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, customer service, and stakeholder engagement skills.
