Field Service Light Vehicle Mechanic

About the role

A well-established mechanical services provider based in Nhulunbuy, Northern Territory, is recruiting a Field Service Light Vehicle Mechanic to live and work in Ramingining, East Arnhem Land. The role involves servicing and maintaining vehicles for the surrounding homelands, which are often reached only by light plane or boat.

Key responsibilities

• Perform servicing and maintenance for local councils, civil contractors and government projects.
• Carry out advanced diagnostics and repairs, focusing on Toyota light vehicles.
• Repair air conditioning systems on Toyota vehicles.
• Work independently to deliver maintenance services in remote islands and communities.
• Maintain accurate records and report defects to supervisors so parts can be procured and repairs completed on time.

Required profile

• Diesel mechanic trade certificate with at least three years of experience.
• Expertise in servicing and repairing Toyota 4x4 vehicles.
• Current driver's licence.
• Strong customer service and organisational skills, able to work independently and manage tasks effectively.
• A respectful and culturally sensitive approach to working in Aboriginal communities.

Required skills

• Desirable: air conditioning repair experience.
• Desirable: knowledge of electrical system repairs.
• Desirable: computer literacy for keeping detailed job records.
