Family & Civil Solicitor – Remote NT Communities

About the role

The North Australian Aboriginal Family Legal Service is seeking qualified solicitors to deliver family, civil and domestic violence legal services across remote communities in the Top End. You will work alongside Aboriginal case support workers to provide culturally safe, trauma‑informed assistance to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation in family law, child protection and domestic violence matters.
• Collaborate with case support workers to deliver holistic client care.
• Travel to remote communities for bush‑court circuits, community visits and legal education sessions.
• Prepare legal documentation, court filings and contribute to policy or advocacy submissions.
• Maintain accurate client records and support internal reporting requirements.

Required profile

• Qualified solicitor with current practising certificate in the Northern Territory.
• Commitment to culturally respectful, trauma‑informed practice.
• Willingness to travel regularly to remote locations.
• Strong communication and relationship‑building skills with Aboriginal communities.

Required skills

• Legal research and case preparation.
• Drafting of court documents and legal correspondence.
• Understanding of family law, child protection and domestic violence legislation.
